Have you noticed something? There seems to be fewer yobs around. Even hoodies have gone out of fashion. May be it's ‘cos there's fewer young people around as we're all getting older. I remember some old geezer telling me years ago: ‘When I was growing up it was fashionable to look middle-aged. Now I'm middle-aged it's fashionable to look young.' Now we're all middle-aged again. There are so many old people around that all the young ‘uns have got scared. They daren't hang around on street corners anymore ‘cos they'd be run down by posses of zimmer frames. Yet if you watch those old telly programmes about the 1970s, towns were awash with yobs. Great armies of skinheads roamed the streets and if you lived out in the country you'd get run down by fleets of Hells Angels and there were fights on the TV every night at footie matches. Then we had binge drinking and that Blair bloke had to bring in a tsar to stop all this anti-social behaviour and everyone thought the country was going to the dogs. Maybe no one's got any dosh to be yobbish anymore. The recession and all these old people have made us polite. So it seems a funny time to bring in a new law making it easier to stamp out yobbishness. Shutting the stable door if you ask me…
