Here's a simple question. If the economy is bust and we're talking about more cuts and old folk will have to sell their homes and live in packing cases, how come we've got billions spare to spend on a new train set? Where's it coming from? Either we've got it or we haven't. If we haven't got it and this government keeps telling us we're broke, then we can't build the train set. Full stop. If we have got the dosh, is spending it on a new railway for a load of suits to whiz up and down the country with their iPhones the best idea? I mean these train companies could cut out their first class carriages for a start as no one can afford to pay £250 for a one-way ticket to Blackpool in order to get a comfy seat and a free cuppa. And, if you really want to get to Birmingham, there are loads of trains. I dunno what ministers keep banging on about. OK, they get full up at rush hour but are you telling me we're about to spend £50bn so it's a bit less busy during the early morning and evening? What about the rest of the day? You'll have all these empty high speed trains flying up and down the country with no one in them. HS2 is a bleeding daft idea like Concorde. Spend the dosh on housing or schools is my view …
