All this row about cuts is going to end up saving us about tuppence ha’penny. There was some report just out saying all that tosh about efficiency savings a couple of years back, with 30,000 civil servants being axed and red tape slashed, turned out to be hot air. It’s obvious it always was, ‘cos how can this government maintain we can save squillions in efficiency savings now ,when supposedly we’ve already done it?And I tell you the same thing will happen again.Scrapping quangos will save nothing ‘cos all these public sector fat cats will have to be paid off with sacks of cash and we’ve still got to fund their huge pensions for another 30 years. As for slashing benefits, don’t make me laugh. It’s like dealing with a monster with 1,000 heads. Once you cut off one benefit, it grows somewhere else.Forcing the unemployed to get work experience rather than have them lie on the sofa all day seems bleeding sensible to you and me but you’ll need to hire an army of snoopers to make sure these layabouts get off their backsides and don’t slope off after the first half hour. In fact, it’d be more sensible to pay the workless to snoop on themselves. You mark my words, come the next election we’ll discover we haven’t actually cut anything at all…
