Nottingham City Council has confirmed that its chief executive, Michael Frater, is leaving, and has already announced his replacement, who is on secondment from the CLG. Mr Frater's departure follows a breakdown in his relationship with council leader, Jon Collins, and the council announced last week he would retire next month. Jane Todd, formerly regional director for the Government Office for the East Midlands and now working for the CLG, will take over the reins as consultant chief executive on 1 May. The MJ reported last month (20 March) that Mr Frater would get a £180,000 pay-off, but local newspapers have claimed he received £230,000. Ms Todd has previous experience of working at the council, having been director of development and environmental services. ‘Ms Todd's record of achievement, and the high regard in which she is held locally and in government circles, make her the perfect appointment at this time,' said Cllr Collins. ‘I am confident she will work effectively with senior managers already in place and councillors to create a single team focused on meeting the real needs of Nottingham people and committed to serving Nottingham better.' Daventry DC has appointed Simon Bovey as its first managing director. The council was rotating the head of paid service role around its four executive directors, but will now rotate the managing director role instead Mr Bovey will be the first executive director to take up this post. ‘Managing director is a more familiar term and more business-like,' he said. ‘It is an easier term for people to understand so they know who to write to if they want to raise an issue.'
