The Government has called on councils to appoint an officer or member, as their community planning ‘champions'. ODPM minister Baroness Andrews said authorities should appoint a councillor or an officer to tell more people about the Planning Aid service, which provided free advice and support on planning issues. An ODPM spokesman said the seniority of any council officer chosen to be a community champion would vary, and was up to the individual authority to decide.
