Civil servants risk repeating the mistakes of the past, with nearly half (46%) lacking the tools needed to make fact-based decisions on how and where to make spending cuts, a survey has suggested.
A study of 105 Whitehall officials conducted by analytics specialists SAS showed over four in five (83%) refer to past data and trends when making decision about the future of public services. A recent McKinsey Global Institute report estimated European governments could make 15-20% efficiency savings from use of applied analytics to ‘big data'.
