The campaign to make St Edmund the patron saint of England.

Here at MJ Towers we love nothing more than rolling up our sleeves and having a good rummage around the half-empty biscuit tin of British history, so we are indebted to Suffolk CC for backing the campaign to make St Edmund the patron saint of England.

Once upon a time, St Edmund was King of East Anglia and was patron saint of England between 869 and 1350, when St George usurped him. Suffolk CC's leader Cllr Mark Bee said: 'We obviously don't have anything against St George. But the fact remains that St Edmund was England's patron saint for 400 years before St George and few people are aware of the kind of leader he was. That's why we believe this is a debate that should be had.
