The Government should pass a £1bn cash windfall from business rates on to local government, Newcastle City Council has claimed. Figures in the Revenue Support Grant revealed business rates yielded an extra billion pounds in business rates. But rather than giving more cash to councils, the Government has used the money to cut its contribution to the Revenue Support Grant.
