Companies bidding for public sector contracts through online auctions is set to become a regular fixture after an e-auction saved £100m. The Office for Government Commerce (OGC) said it was now looking to extend the procurement process which has a reverse auction as its final stage. Eight public sector organisations, including the Home Office and the Treasury, combined their office supplies contract for stationery, printer cartridges, paper and magnetic media before launching the online auction. The total pre-auction value was £232m but the final price when bidding ended was £132m – a saving of £100m.
