The Welsh Local Government Association and businesses across Wales have reached a landmark agreement to boost collaboration. This means private companies could have a greater involvement in delivering public services across the country, leading to huge savings which, according to BT director for Wales, Ann Beynon, could be ploughed back into frontline services. Speaking about the agreement reached at a conference in Swansea last week, Cllr Derek Vaughan, leader of the WLGA said: ‘Welsh local government has a significant involvement with the private sector, and recognises its importance in creating prosperous communities. ‘We are keen to explore greater collaboration to design and deliver innovative approaches and services in order that we can further improve the services we provide to our citizens and communities. ‘What is important is that we add public value to our work. The meeting allows us to lay the foundations for a fruitful engagement and relationship in the future.' Director of the CBI in Wales, David Rosser, said evidence from the UK showed the private sector could bring ‘much to the table' to improve public services.
