The Welsh Assembly Government's spending plans for the next three years have been described as ‘derisory' for local government services. Welsh Local Government Association leader, Derek Vaughan, said: ‘Today's settlement again sees local government at the bottom of the pile when it comes to public finances in Wales.' Presiding officer, Cllr Meryl Gravell, described it as the worst settlement under the assembly government and revealed the WLGA had called for an ‘urgent' meeting to discuss its concerns. But the minister for finance and public service delivery, Andrew Davies, described the settlement as ‘a progressive budget for a progressive government'. Mr Davies also promised a ‘bonfire of inefficiency', and vowed to get rid of duplication and red tape.
