First workplace parking levy

The nation's first workplace parking levy (WPL) went live in Nottingham this week.

The nation's first workplace parking levy (WPL) went live in Nottingham this week – part of efforts to improve the city's transport network and create economic growth.

The WPL will see firms providing more than 10 parking spaces to employees charged an annual fee of £288 per space. Nottingham City Council estimates the scheme will raise £8m of funding for transport programmes in the first year alone. The policy forms part of a wider local sustainability and transport plan, including two new tram lines and a business park.
