World Cup screenings in Clayton Square, Liverpool, (pictured), have been scrapped after violence erupted during England’s first game against Paraguay on Saturday. Leader of Liverpool City Council, Warren Bradley, said a small minority of people had ruined the screenings for everyone. ‘I never expected this kind of loutish behaviour,’ he said. ‘The yobs have won.’ The decision not to screen any further matches on Liverpool’s big screen was taken jointly by Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police and the BBC. A council spokesman added: ‘The decision was taken reluctantly.’ Screenings at Canary Wharf in London’s Docklands have also been abandoned.
