City of York Council is set to join a handful of towns and cities across the country in turning its city centre into a wi-fi zone, offering free Internet connectivity.

Entitled ‘Digital York' the scheme will pilot free wireless this autumn to two areas of the city, whose bid to achieve UNESCO World Heritage site status was rejected in March, as part of an initiative to improve the quality of public spaces.
