Croydon LBC has hired chief executive of the Housing Corporation, Jon Rouse, as its new boss. At 38, he will be one of the youngest chief executives of a unitary authority in the country – and only the sixth chief executive in the council's 70-year history. Mr Rouse has been chief executive at the Housing Corporation since 2004. Prior to that, he was chief executive of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, and secretary of the Urban Task force. Other roles included working as a private secretary to former Tory local government minister, David Curry. Mr Rouse succeeds David Wechsler, who is retiring after 37 years with the council.
