Stratford Underground station provided the perfect platform for the DansAthletic extravaganza that launched the 2006 Newham Arts Festival. More than 30 youngsters from schools across the borough took part in the special dance performance produced by East London Dance and Platform for Art, London Underground's arts programme. DansAthletic was designed to promote preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games. Newham's executive adviser for culture Cllr Joe Corbett said: ‘This was the perfect way to launch the festival and let so many young people display their artistic talent to the community.'
