Youth custody savings A report released last week called for the abolition of youth custody for all but violent offenders. Children in trouble, an LGA-issued report, states this would dramatically reduce the number of young people imprisoned by around 4,000, saving more than £70m a year. It calls for tough community-based sentences as an alternative to custody.
