Business leader calls for appeals talks to restart

Halting discussions on business rates appeals between the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and ratepayers is ‘outrageous’, one of the negotiators has claimed.

Head of business rates at investment firm Colliers, John Webber, has claimed the breakdown in talks could be at the direction of the Chancellor in the run up to the Budget – leaving businesses hanging in the balance.

Negotiations between the VOA and the Ratings Surveyors Association’s COVID-19 Strategy Group – of which Mr Webber is a part – were halted in December and have yet to restart.
