Decisions over miserly income guarantee deal was ministers’ call

Local government calls for the income guarantee scheme to cover lost sales, fees and charges from the start of lockdown was knocked back by ministers, The MJ understands.

Guidance for the scheme published last month confirmed it would only cover some losses from the beginning of April – more than a week after Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the country that people ‘must’ stay at home and certain businesses must close.
