EXCLUSIVE: London chief arrested

A London borough chief executive has been arrested and charged with driving and drug offences.

A London borough chief executive has been arrested and charged with driving and drug offences.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the chief executive of Lambeth LBC, Bayo Dosunmu, was arrested on Sunday 23 June after failing to stop at the scene of an accident. On Monday he was charged with possession of a class A controlled drug, failing to stop after a road accident, driving above the prescribed alcohol limit, and using a motor vehicle in a public place without third party insurance.

Dosunmu was announced as the chief executive of the council in April 2022, taking over from Andrew Travers, and was previously deputy chief executive. He joined Lambeth in 2019 from Homes England, with the majority of his career spent in the civil service.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court next month.

A Lambeth LBC spokesperson said: 'Lambeth LBC chief executive Bayo Dosunmu is currently away from work and the council has put in place interim leadership arrangements. We are unable to make any further comment due to an ongoing police investigation.'

The MJ has also approached Dosunmu directly for comment.
