Frugal authorities may be left exposed to more cuts

It is a ‘tragic truth’ that local government’s ability to deal with cuts has left it vulnerable to further cuts in next week’s Budget, a top academic has suggested.

Speaking at a MJ round table, Professor Tony Travers said the sector had assumed spending settlements for 2018/19 and 2019/20 will not ‘radically shift at all’ as they have already been agreed.
