It’s not a bail out: it is tax-funded public services

Local government has received a bail out – a cash injection from central government, boosting the finance settlement and rescuing the sector from potential collapse. Or so the minister-friendly press would tell you.

But there is something discomforting about how the narrative was framed after the Government found an extra £600m for the finance settlement.
