Local government is 130 years old, but will it see its next decade?

2018 is the 70th birthday of the NHS. Less well known is that local government, which traces its modern roots back to the 1888 Local Government Act, is 130 years old this year, almost twice as old at the NHS.

Rumours abound that the Government will honour the NHS’s special year by announcing extra funding and possibly a long-term funding deal, though how much extra funding and the period of any such deal will no doubt be the subject of intense negotiation.
