MPs call for council powers over asylum housing

Councils should be tasked with inspecting accommodation for asylum seekers and granted the power to impose sanctions, MPs have said.

The Home Affairs Committee has also recommended that housing for asylum seekers should be located across a wider area to relieve pressures on authorities in areas such as Manchester and Glasgow.
