McDonnell unveils a Northern manifesto

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell will today announce plans to shift the balance of power from Westminster to the North.

But his announcement will come amid warnings from the chancellor Sajid Javid that Labour fiscal plans would put a ‘decade of recovery’ at risk.

In his first major speech of the election campaign, Labour’s Mr McDonnell will pledge a £150bn New Social Transformation Fund in the first five years of a Labour Government to ‘upgrade and expand our schools, hospitals, care homes and council houses’.
