PM dashes hopes for localism and devolution

Any hopes that the Queen’s Speech would be the answer to local government’s chunky issues – social care and finance – have been dashed again after the Government unveiled its legislative programme. Then again, you would have to be a true optimist to have expected a silver bullet.

What the Queen’s Speech has cemented is MHCLG’s position in Government – it’s now the Ministry for Housing, Planning and Trying Not to Think About Local Government. And I’m not sure that’s such a bad thing.
