Savings scepticism over election reforms

Election professionals have expressed scepticism that expected savings from reforming the annual canvass will offset the need for Government funding for individual electoral registration (IER).

In a letter to electoral registration officers (ERO), seen by The MJ, the Cabinet Office’s director of constitution, Peter Lee, said the reforms would ‘streamline the process and deliver significant savings to the overall cost of electoral registration’.
