During the protracted and rather demeaning saga of the tortuous Brexit process, it has been common to hear the Government team lament intolerably lowered levels of respect and decency of treatment in the corridors of Brussels negotiators.

For many in local government, it would have required a heart of stone not to inwardly rejoice at the sight of Whitehall and Westminster’s finest getting a taste of their own Night Nurse.
