Five years ago, the murder of Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox came as a massive shock to the nation.

On that day in 2016, as we prepared to celebrate the achievements of local government at The MJ Awards, the murder of a public servant as she carried out her duty was a tragedy for those around her, and a brutal assault on democracy.
