Building resilience from the ground up

Skills and training are central to the delivery of the resilience agenda in local government, says Helen Hinds.

Work is underway at the heart of central government to help strengthen the UK's resilience to the myriad threats and disruptions that we face as a country. Lessons have been learnt from shocks such as Covid, and the Government is proactively putting in place resources to support our communities to mitigate and adapt to the challenges of today and tomorrow.

From climate change and natural hazards to cyber attacks and the threat of terrorism, there are a range of different scenarios facing the country which have the potential to disrupt the foundations of our daily lives. To withstand and mitigate against these and other threats, a programme of activity is emerging across government which aims to strengthen the resilience of society as a whole to these stressors and multiple risk factors.
