CCN: Tourist tax would raise more than £200m

County councils in England could potentially raise more than £200m each year by levying a £2 per night tax on tourists, according to a study for the County Councils’ Network (CCN).

County councils in England could potentially raise more than £200m each year by levying a £2 per night tax on tourists, according to a study for the County Councils' Network (CCN).

Research by accountancy firm Grant Thornton said revenue from a tourism tax in areas with more visitors would ‘enhance local amenities and services, creating a positive feedback loop for both residents and visitors'.
