A council that lost its chief executive and chief finance officer within a month has refused to reveal whether either will receive exit payments.

Kate Kennally's resignation as Cornwall chief executive was followed by chief operating and section 151 officer Annabel Scholes handing in her notice days later.

Kennally, who had held the post for a decade, was already on leave of absence with Andy Keeling taking charge as interim deputy chief executive. Her wife Rachael Rothero also resigned this month as service director for people commissioning.

A council spokesperson said: ‘We would not comment on any individual's personal circumstances, regardless of their seniority within the authority.'

Council leader Cllr Leigh Frost told fellow councillors at the start of this month that the transparency of appointments and exit payments was an ‘area of focus' for him.

Under statutory guidance issued under the Localism Act, full council should be given the chance to vote on severance packages of £100,000 or more.

The council's chief officers' employment committee, chaired by Cllr Frost, is due to meet for the third time in five weeks later this week though much of the meeting is likely to be held behind closed doors.
