Local government is among the most at-risk organisations of data breaches, with councils reporting thousands of incidents since 2023, according to the latest research.
Analysis of figures from the Information Commissioner's Office found that from 2023 to March this year there were at least 1,956 General Data Protection Regulation breaches impacting councils. This accounted for just under one in 10 of all reports and was higher than reports of breaches at charities.
