Council chiefs have demanded a meeting with care minister Norman Lamb to address a legal ruling that could exacerbate social cost pressures by a further £98m.
A joint letter sent from chair of the Local Government Association's community wellbeing board Cllr Izzi Secombe and Dave Pearson, president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, warns the Supreme Court Judgment on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) ‘is brought into even sharper relief' following ‘another difficult local government funding settlement'.

The letter further restates concerns about the affordability of costs of implementing the Care Act in 2015/16 given an unknown level of demand.
