Create a strategic planning system that is long-term and consistent

Allowing mayors the ability to rewrite spatial development strategies prepared by councils runs opposite to the County Councils' Network's call for a long-term and coherent plan for housing, says Simon Edwards.

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is currently well on its way through Parliament. It contains more comprehensive reforms to the planning system.

There is much to support in the Bill and perhaps the best illustration of this is the proposal to reintroduce strategic planning via spatial development strategies (SDS).
