Director for Environment and the Economy - Dorset County Council

Director for Environment and the Economy - Dorset County Council

Salary: £109,430 - £123,793

Take a trip round Dorset's Jurassic Coast world heritage site and you'll get a fantastic view of the evolution of life in Earth's oceans.

Take on this vital role for Dorset and you'll be instrumental in driving the evolution of Dorset's economic and social wellbeing. From aerospace innovators to food pioneers, there's a wealth of industry, invention and entrepreneurship to be found here. But do you have the unique mix of skills and experience to protect our unique environmental treasures while promoting the exciting growth of high value local businesses?

Your role:

Our transformation programme, Forward Together, is already under way and you'll lead, influence and shape the way our services develop. Reporting to the Chief Executive you will be the face of our award-winning Directorate for Environment and the Economy, engaging and working with partners from the public, private and voluntary sectors as well as building trust and confidence with wider communities.

As an inspiring and innovative leader, you will make a telling contribution to the council's key projects. You will also deliver on financial targets, developing sustainable services for the future.

What you'll need:

With an understanding of environmental issues and economic development and how they relate to local government, you'll have the political awareness to rationalise and make strategic decisions. You will also need to be an articulate and persuasive communicator, with the ability to engage different audiences and develop strong working relationships, both inside and outside the council.

Combining strong leadership with commercial awareness and the ability to make sometimes difficult strategic decisions, you will support the council's mission to improve the quality of life for everyone in Dorset.
