Director of Finance and Support Services, East Hertfordshire

Hertford. Over the past four years East Herts Council has transformed itself. Alongside our enterprising ‘can do' culture, we've developed a sound financial base, a succession of strong and sustainable partnerships and most importantly a real focus on adding value to the communities which we serve.

As a result of the forthcoming retirement of our current Director, we are now looking for a suitably qualified Director of Finance and Support Services to take us forward onto the next stage of our development.

You will be at the heart of delivering improvements in everything that we do. Critical to your success will be making sure that we continue to find innovative and sustainable ways to deliver our priority services and provide even better value for our communities. This for example, will see you playing a leading role in advancing our shared services agenda, negotiating with our partners and ensuring that our shared services activities deliver the required levels of financial savings, increased resilience and performance.

You will be the Council's Section 151 Officer and will personally lead on Finance and a wide range of corporate support functions, including; Human Resources, ICT, Property Services, Corporate Performance and Risk and Legal and Democratic Services. Additionally, you will also lead our shared Revenues and Benefits Service and shared internal audit partnership.

You will be an integral part of our strong and collaborative Corporate Management Team and will report directly to our Chief Executive, who is also our Director of Customer and Community Services.

An outcome driven and professionally qualified CCAB Accountant, you are likely to be a current Director of Finance with a broad span of responsibility, or a high performing Deputy, who is ready to make the step up.

Possessing extensive knowledge of local authority finance; you will have a strong mix of corporate and strategic financial and resource management experience allied to an exemplary track record of robust financial stewardship. You will be comfortable leading conversations and negotiating with our partners, be a team player and have excellent experience of providing strategic leadership for a wide range of diverse services.
