WORKFORCE

Director of Investment and Development

Salary: Up to £110,068 pa

Newcastle hit the headlines recently with £100m reductions in services over the next three years. But alongside our challenging revenue budget we have also agreed an ambitious £450m capital programme for the city. Now we need a proven leader who can make that investment deliver the jobs and growth which will be at the heart of our city's renaissance.

As part of a unique ‘City Deal' with the government, you will lead the delivery of a major project to transform the area around the Central Station, Europe's largest city centre development opportunity at Science Central which draws on our close relationship with Newcastle University to bring science, research and innovation to the heart of the city. And you will shape the opportunity to revitalise the East Pilgrim Street area cementing Newcastle's place as one of the north's leading retail hubs. Add to this our ambitious plans for housing growth, including a vital new community in Scotswood, and you will see that we have big plans.

You will understand that at the heart of any successful investment of this scale is partnership and collaboration with investors in the public and private sector. But as well as a track record in delivery of major capital investment projects and programmes you must also show that you understand people. Our investment must create the jobs that local people need, and be taken forward in close partnership with our communities. You will also take a lead responsibility for strengthening the council's relationship with business, regionally, nationally and globally.

So if you are genuinely inspired by our ambition we'd love you to get in touch. Visit our microsite for more details at this website Closing date for applications is Friday 19 April 2013.
