The timing of Great Yarmouth's place on the shortlist for UK Town of Culture couldn't be better to herald the dawn of a new era, says Sheila Oxtoby.

With summer in full swing, Great Yarmouth is bustling. That is great news for our tourism businesses and the local economy.

An apt time also for the Government to announce we are on the shortlist to become the first UK Town of Culture.
