Director/Principal Consultant - Asset Management IT Solutions - HT-001151 

Highways and Transportation (H&T) is seeking candidates who have a proven background in leading and implementing IT solutions to support the development H&T’s Service Lines comprising Asset Solutions, Design and Major Projects and Strategic Advice.

The role will be part of the technology team set up to enable H&Ts growth with the latest technology and solutions. We are looking to compliment our highly capable and motivated team with a principal consultant/Director who is passionate about leading, defining and delivering technology solutions to our clients including our internal business. The individual must demonstrate a drive for excellence, mutual support, safety, deliver against high expectations and take personal ownership for success and that of the team.

The role of Principal Consultant/Director will require knowledge of the transportation sector and experience of technology solutions across the H&Ts service lines. The individual will have the ability to share and communicate ideas clearly, both orally and in writing, to executive staff, business sponsors, and technical resources in clear concise language that is the parlance of each group.

In addition this role will also lead the support of the development and implementation of solutions in the area of datawarehousing and asset management systems supporting the M25 DBFO.  This will include working with the business to identifying the key requirements through to procurement and delivery.  The role will therefore require a good understanding of business intelligence, project management, commercial and procurement.

Responsibilities
Defining solutions:

  • To work with both clients and our H&T business to identify their technical requirements
  • To maintain responsibility for the development and management of the overall vision that underlies the projected solution and transforms that vision through execution into the solution working with both developers and delivery managers to achieve a successful outcome for the client
  • To decide which approaches and technologies to use, working very closely with developers to ensure proper implementation. You are the link between the needs of the organisation and the developers.
  • To lead in the Functional analysis (FA) of developing the initial requirements

 
Business Planning

  • Survey market landscape for solution insights, direction, suppliers, and methods
  • Develop a strategy to provide technology support to H&T Service Lines
  • Develop and execute a business plan that supports product growth
  • Shape, design, and plan specific service lines in product area
  • Work with our marketing and business development teams to identify pipeline opportunities

Subject Matter Expert

  • Take a lead in providing expert advice in areas such as asset management systems
  • Provide expertise to identify and translate system requirements into software design documentation,
  • Work with technical writers to ensure quality internal and external client-oriented documentation
  • Speak at industry conferences and seek authorship opportunities in technical and trade publications

Project Management

  • Take the lead in managing the implementation of technology solutions both for our clients and internal business
  • Provide advice on the procurement of systems including advising of the forms of procurement and identifying programming and commercial risks associated with approach
  • Working with teams and individuals to ensure the delivery to deadlines
  • Working with a large groups of stakeholders to understand and deliver their requirements

Preferred Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in IT technologies and comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organisation with a expanding customer base both internal customers and external. Candidate must be organised and analytical, adept at working in a team environment, able to design and implement a project schedule, and able to handle multiple priorities.

Additional preferred qualifications are:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred
  • PRINCE 2 Practitioner
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel to client locations (up to 50%)
  • Must demonstrate good judgment and pragmatic approach to delivering software that optimizes architecture activities across company needs, business constraints and technological realities
  • Experience with enterprise integration tools and extract, transformation and load (ETL) tools
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Web Service API’s for integration purposes
  • Knowledge in web-based systems architecture, service-based architecture, enterprise application architecture as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints
  • Hands-on expertise in some of the following technologies: Force.com, APEX, VisualForce, Workflows, OBM, Integration/EAI technologies (e.g. Pervasive, Informatica, Jitterbit, ESB), C++Java/J2EE, including SOAP, RESTful, .NET and related technologies (JSON, XML, etc), Common frameworks such as struts, spring, hibernate, etc. and Database technologies (Oracle, MySQL, JDBC, SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures)
  • Participated in, and be familiar with, Agile (Scrum) project methodology and practices including appropriate qualifications such as NRL Practitioner
