Wage pressures are contributing to the local government funding gap of £1.9bn in 2025-26, councils across England have warned as unions consider a 3.2% pay increase offer.

The Local Government Association has cited wage pressures, along with inflation and growing demand and complexity of need, as contributing to the sector's funding gap, which is estimated to reach £8.4bn by 2028-29.
