Exclusive: Rural and urban council funding 'more or less' the same

Funding levels will be broadly the same for urban and rural councils under the Government’s fair funding reforms, according to exclusive analysis from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) think-tank.

Funding levels will be broadly the same for urban and rural councils under the Government's fair funding reforms, according to exclusive analysis from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) think-tank.

The IFS found the core spending power (CSP) of the tenth most rural upper-tier councils would rise by an average of 2.2% above inflation year-on-year, while the CSP of the tenth most urban councils would increase by 2.7%.
