The Government is to strengthen the powers of its long-promised child protection authority following a consultation on the independent national body's remit.

Three-quarters of respondents to the Department for Education's (DfE) three-month consultation backed the body's role in holding organisations to account, including powers to compel information sharing and advise inspectorates.
