Leading the way in transforming adult services, you'll make your mark in a fast-changing service to integrate health and social care.

The role

This role will be critical in enabling the successful implementation of a new service design and embedding a culture to support consistent, high-performance delivery.

This is a pivotal role that will find you working closely with the Director of Adults' Services, as well as council members, key partners in the NHS, and providers of community health and social care services. Building on the work of the current job holder, who retires in September, you'll oversee the ongoing implementation of major changes. With influence at a political and strategic level, you will also identify and implement opportunities for further improving processes and systems.

Along with business planning and financial management, workforce development is also a key part of the role. Providing professional leadership for social workers across the council, you will prepare them to meet the demands of the future.

The person

Demanding significant management experience, this role would be an ideal step for a deputy head or strategic manager of social care, or a head of social care in a smaller local authority. As a qualified social care worker, you'll have a high level of professional proficiency and a good understanding of the national context for changes in health and social care provision.

Along with a strategic focus and the ability to build strong working relationships, you'll have a track-record of developing effective partnerships across health and social care. Financial and business management skills are also key.

The organisation

Providing services to a population of over 800,000, West Sussex County Council is a large and forward-thinking local authority. We offer an excellent quality of life in a semi-rural yet culturally rich area of Southern England with excellent links to central London, Gatwick Airport and the coast.
