About us

At Maidstone Borough Council, we're extremely ambitious for our future. The commercialisation of some of our key services, along with the economic development and regeneration of the borough, are high priorities on our agenda. With an investment budget of £6 million and provision for regeneration projects of £1.8 million this year, we've not only the resources and infrastructure but also the passion and determination to ensure our services are future-proofed through commercialisation. All we need now is a high-level visionary to join us and direct the delivery of strategies that will make it all happen.

About the role

In this far-reaching senior role, you'll apply your strategic thinking, in-depth commercial experience and partnership approach to deliver exceptional, profitable services that make Maidstone a better place to live. Working with the Corporate Leadership Team and the Cabinet, you'll contribute to the strategic management of the Council as a whole, as well as taking direct responsibility for our commercialisation and income generation agenda. You'll start by shaping our vision for the commercialisation of services ranging from parks and theatres to leisure provision. Proactively developing our property portfolio, cultivating strong relationships with businesses and creating local economic growth will all be central to your success. At every step of the way, you'll work towards generating both a smarter commercial culture and a cost-savvy entrepreneurial approach across the Council.

About you

If you want to drive our ambitions forward and build better services for all, you'll need to be an innovative strategic thinker with the ability to translate your vision into practical service delivery plans and lead a range of complex projects. With a remit spanning the public and private sectors, you'll bring outstanding commercial acumen combined with a clear understanding of local authority culture – a private-public sector partnerships background is ideal. Financially fluent with excellent business-planning skills, you're also an inspirational leader who can manage a dedicated staff of up to 60 talented individuals.
