Head of Financial Services /Head of Corporate Resources

London Borough of Lewisham

Head of Financial Services

£71,712 - £94,836 plus benefits

Lewisham today is a successful and cosmopolitan part of London home to energetic, creative and diverse local communities.  As Head of Financial Services you will work closely with Members, Directors and Senior Management across the organization as well as external partners.  Reporting to the Executive Director for Resources and Regeneration you will provide support, challenge and expert financial advice to ensure that decision makers make the most of taxpayer money.

About the role

This is a critically important post that will help the council continue to deliver great services to residents at the same time as delivering value for taxpayers.  We are looking to identify opportunities to deliver services in radically different ways to meet the challenges of significant financial constraints and budget savings. We will encourage innovation and risk-taking, but ensure that it is underpinned by solid financial advice and risk management.

The Borough is currently undergoing its biggest regeneration transformation in more than a century, with new and reinvigorated schools, leisure and health facilities, homes, public spaces and town centres on their way.  Finance has a key role to play in ensuring first rate financial and commercial advice supports all aspects of the transformation.

Our Finance function already has an enviable reputation for turning the Council's challenging aspirations into practical realities. You will build on this reputation, helping shape Lewisham for the future by providing the financial management and support to change management in the business.

About you

We require an outstanding individual with the drive, enthusiasm and leadership skills necessary to make a major contribution to a successful organisation undergoing change. You will be a qualified accountant (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA) able to demonstrate significant financial leadership experience.  Local Government experience would be highly advantageous, although we would consider individuals with a broader professional background. The focus of this will place great emphasis on your interpersonal skills.  Also important will be the ability to bring a commercial emphasis, in particular through the investigation and implementation of new service delivery models.
