Hitting the strike button

The three main local government unions have all rejected the employers’ pay offer. How strong is the possibility of widespread strike action against a backdrop of wider public sector disquiet with the Government on pay? David Blackman reports.

The vote last week by resident, formerly known as junior, doctors to strike over pay shows that the brief post-election public sector industrial relations honeymoon is rapidly waning.

And Unite's decision to suspend Angela Rayner's membership of the union, where the deputy prime minister cut her political teeth, will have further curdled government-union relationships.
