Is it time to inspect homelessness?

The Government is already laying much of the groundwork for an ‘Ofsted for homelessness’, says Jack Shaw. He asserts that it should not be afraid to explore a more muscular approach to raising standards.

Do we need an Ofsted for homelessness services? It is a question I keep returning to – and a direction the Government increasingly is moving toward.

In its National Plan to End Homelessness, the Government is explicit that stronger local accountability is a core pillar of its approach. Local authorities will be required to publish action plans alongside their five-yearly homelessness strategies.
