Council leaders in London have pledged to get more involved in the safeguarding of children. London Councils has developed guidance to support lead members and leaders in fulfilling their safeguarding responsibilities. Its executive member for children and young people, Cllr James Kempton, said: ‘Social workers are at the frontline of protecting children but council leaders play a crucial role in supporting and resourcing them as well as holding them to account.'
