The US-Iran situation provokes interesting political discourse on the merits or otherwise of the conflict and, rightly so, a debate on the inevitable human suffering of war.

Closer to home, we may feel more secure from the immediacy of warfare, but public services are not insulated from geopolitical issues. The conflict in Ukraine, following Russia's invasion in February 2022, saw crude oil reach $139 per barrel in just a few short weeks. This tells us that rapid changes on the international stage can quickly and drastically impact at a local level.
